This weekend, between June 24 and 26, the Astra Museum invites the residents of Sibiu to celebrate the International Day of Ia. This year, the program will be held in the textile sector of the Open Air Museum of Dumbrava Sibuloi, where the doors of 8 traditional houses will be opened. Here 36 folk craftsmen and creators will be present, who will exhibit and sell their products, folk costumes – Roman, Saxon, Hungarian, toys, ornaments, ceramics.
There will also be 12 interactive workshops, supported by folk craftsmen, restorers, and museum painters, which will consist of embroidered Saxon appliqués and ribbons, sewn on cholera markers, weaving, ornament and bead-making, wool felt and goat hair weaving, drawn on traditional glass motifs from Any braided chestnut. At the same time, a guide will be given on the story of wool from wool to fabric: processing of raw materials, tools, techniques, decoration.
Accompanied by Rosalis, Sanzenelli who are preparing to announce the solstice and summer Saint John, the Open Air Museum of Dumbrava Sibiului, once again, enters the magical world of IEI. This year we chose to celebrate the event in the lawns and courtyards of the home textile sector of the Astra Museum in Dumbrava Sibuloi. The streets of the old village are brimming with artisans, and the story of their craft becomes a meeting place for the community dedicated to and inspired by it. Freshly grassed lawns transform into the most beautiful outdoor scene, and a perfect host to ancient customs and contemporary technologies alike. For three days, we invite the audience to be a scholar and researcher of traditions and customs. On Ia Day, visitors sample stories, sit on benches and feed pancakes with summer dichis. Here it is worth learning the story of the thread-hugging weaving even from those who live, research, and carry on the tradition: folk craftsmen, museum painters, restorers. Illustrative and interactive workshops will be held in the backyards, ranging from wool-cutting and various weaving workshops, to workshops of flower printing on textiles or dyed in natural colors, crafted motifs, embroidered motifs for example, felt, metal drawing, and painting. On glass or leather processing. On the streets will be the exhibition of objects, traditional objects, contemporary design, flowers and woven baskets. We are also taking a step towards contemporary by having a private photo booth and…more and more! “, Simona Tolsio, clerk at the Astra Museum said.
Among the events in this year’s program are the reconstruction of the customs of Sânziene, Drăgaică and Căluș (Friday, June 24), the awarding of the title of Living Human Treasure to Mrs. Maria Ciucă of Poiana Sibiului, a walk in IE with cycling. (Saturday, June 25) and Hora by Sânziene (Sunday, June 26). International Aya Day is celebrated on June 24 by Sânziene, and was started in 2013 by the La Blouse Roumaine online community.
