Born in Bucharest, Mihaela Effie wanted to make a name for herself in handball at Târgu Morey, but injuries and an unfavorable environment forced her to leave what she loved most. In a short time, she created a club in her “adoptive” city and became a successful coach, with national and international titles.

Mihaela Effie: “At the moment it was easy for me to give up the hand touch, but after a few months I started missing it”

I spent an important part of my childhood and adolescence in the national team camps. I was a very passionate child, but unfortunately I took the most important step, moving from young to old, wrong. Born and raised in Bucharest, at the age of 18 I had to move to a big team. I chose Targu Morey, because at that time it was a newly promoted team in League One, and I was told that there I would have the opportunity to play more, being a youngster.

The team changed some coaches in a very short time, and after a while she was injured, she underwent surgery. Because of the wrong environment I was in, I began to have some heart problems, blood pressure increased periodically, and when I got to a specialist he advised me to give up sports because I was too young to have such problems.

It was so easy for me to let go of that moment, I even felt liberated. But after a few months, I started to miss handball. At Targo Mori, I also met my husband, who is a former athleteSaid Mihaela Effie on

The blow to Mihaela Effie: “I suffered a lot because it was my dream”

Mihaela Effie, currently coach at CS Gloria Bistrița, in Romania’s second division, recalls the gratification-filled period she coached at Târgu More, but also the disappointment she experienced when she had to ditch the club over who created it.

The idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a private handball club came naturally and fairly easily, whether they were teachers of physical education and sports. Târgu Mures was a city with a tradition in handball, but it had not been in the final tournaments and important competitions for a very long time.

I’ve always liked kids, so a job where I can play handball and play with kids seems perfect. The founding of the Olympic Club was a real success, hundreds of children have been registered since the first month of activity. Because I was so young, I was 21 when I started training, I chose to start from scratch, with groups of 7-8 year old girls. In our 10 years of activity we have won all possible national competitions: juniors V, juniors IV, juniors III, juniors II, an ice on the cake and juniors I.

I have also won many medals in international tournaments with this generation. Being a private club, the activity could not be continued when the girls moved into their seniors. I think the local authorities created the SCM in 2018, but that turned out to be a fiasco. The club consisted of 13 divisions in its first year of existence and accumulated huge debts after a few months. The year I was a Junior National Champion, I subsidized the entire competition with money from home.

We haven’t been paid in months, but we kept bringing in money so we could finish the competition. Although the conditions were very difficult, I was close to being promoted in the Flower League with a team that averages 19 years old. The pandemic came and with it the offers made to our players at the time, who finally decided to put the financial part first.

We suffered a lot at that time because it was my dream to go up in the first league with the same formula that, one by one, we achieved all our dreams together. But I think it was actually a blessing. We have personally incurred a lot of debt to support the business and would probably have gone on to do impossible things if we had not experienced this disappointment.

I am proud that I never went a step further in my training as a coach, I started with junior handball and became the Junior National Champion with his breeding team.Mihaela Evi added.

  • 6 National Champion titles and 3 times Vice National Champion is Mihaela Effie’s performances as a coach.
  • 3 titles in the Sarios Cup, Slovakia, the Ciel Silver Cup, Hungary, winner of the Smederevo Cup, Serbia, still has a record.
