Between August 30 and September 4, the project “Pelcanto in the Royal Court” in and around Targovít brings together international artists and young musicians selected from all over the country, in an event designed to contribute to the professional development of the new generation of lyrical artists and the promotion of emblematic spaces in the Dâmbovița province. The project includes a vocal performance competition, a master course, a series of concerts and a conference presentation.

The jury is made up of eminent cultural figures, such as soprano Yulia Izef – University Lecturer at the Singing Department of the Faculty of Music Performance – UNMB and soloist of the Bucharest National Opera, baritone Lucien Petrin – soloist of the Bucharest National Opera Conductor of the Orchestra Daniel Jenga – Director of the Bucharest National Opera and Cultural Director Sebastian Giorgio in a row. Chairman of the Jury – Tenor Florin Georgescu, Director of the Provincial Cultural Center in Targovite.

After the first stage of the online competition, 24 young musicians qualified. The total value of the awards is 10,000 lei, to which are added scholarships at ICON Arts Transylvania Summer Academy – 2023 Edition, invitations to perform in the “Opportunity In Your Home” seasons organized nationwide by UCIMR as well as invitations to perform at Sibiu Opera Festival events – 2023 version, inside the Sibiu State Philharmonic.

In addition to opera lovers, the calendar also addresses children with free creative workshops organized at the Dambovica District Cultural Center. Here they will learn how to make small percussion instruments and learn interesting information about music and rhythm, even with the opportunity to perform with a small performance.

An event designed for both residents and visitors

The project is implemented in symbolic spaces on the territory of the province of Dâmbovița, and aims to enrich the visiting experience and add to the cultural offer of the end of summer. The old center of Targovite, the collection of the Royal Court in Targovite, and the collection of the Brankovenice Palace of Potlogi will be highlighted by the presence of artists who will perform parts of the most beautiful and magnificent works.

Tenor Florin Georgescu

A famous opera personality in the largest theaters in Europe, Balșoi State Academic Theater in Moscow, Novosibirsk Opera in Siberia, Israeli Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Detroit Opera House or Michigan Theatre, tenor Florin Georgescu was the “golden voice” of the 1980s and 1990s, With a brilliant artistic career, a former metallurgist at the Targovit Steel Factory, he entered the music world in 1979, after auditioning for a position in the Bucharest Opera Choir.

The following year, he was accepted into the conservatory and already during his studies won the first prize in a singing competition in Budapest, then he was invited to sing on stages in Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union and other countries. In 1983, he made his debut in the Romanian opera as the Duke of Mantua in the film “Rigoletto” by Giuseppe Verdi, after graduating he was assigned to the Bucharest Opera where his performances were held in the halls of the archipelago and the “Closed House”. He had colleagues on stage with other titans of Romanian music: Nicolae Herlia, Silvia Foenia, Elena Cerny, Eugenia Moldovino, Nikolai Fleury, David Ohannessian, Pompey Hortino and others, and after the 1989 revolution, through a 3-year contract in the USA, He sang in Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit and New York theaters, along with big names from world opera, including the famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

Having achieved success in other countries (including in Israel, where he was also invited to several shows), homesickness made him return to Romania, and he settled in Dâmbovița County, where he shares his home with a spirit of Petrochita and activism within the county’s cultural center that He’s been driving it since December 2020.
