Sept 4 – Wildlife Day, Macadamia Nuts & Candy Supplements

Every day is special and worth celebrating, especially when there are additional reasons on the calendar. Whether it is the holidays well known around the world, or the lesser-known ones, every day of the year there is at least one holiday worthy of attention, providing additional reason both to amusement and to expand the field of knowledge or raise awareness.

To fully enjoy every day of the year, we also let ourselves be inspired by one of the famous dialogues of beloved characters in the world of fairy tales created by British writer A. A. Millen a little over a century ago, in his children’s book Winnie-the-Pooh: Today?, Pooh asked. – It’s today, a piglet squeaks. – Pooh said, my favorite day” (“- What day is it?, asked Pooh. – It’s today, Piglet. – My favorite day, Pooh said”).

Therefore, today with some of his holidays may be the favorite day of many of us.

Wildlife Day

Every year many animal and plant species are lost in the face of human economic development and expansion, but through the efforts of nature conservation organizations, nature reserve managers and zoos, the rate of disappearance of plant and animal species is slowing down. Wildlife Day (#WildlifeDay), which is celebrated in the USA, was created to remind everyone of nature’s creatures that cannot defend themselves in the face of human threats.

This day was chosen in memory of Australian naturalist Steve Irwin, nicknamed “The Crocodile Hunter”, who died on September 4, 2006.

Wildlife enthusiast Steve Irwin is best known for his documentaries and feature films.

Steve Irwin died after being attacked by a cat. The animal stung it several times in the chest, causing severe bleeding. The stings penetrated his chest and reached his heart and lung. He was filming overseas a documentary series called “Ocean’s Deadliest” near Port Douglas, Queensland. In the aftermath of the attack, his colleagues brought Erwin back to the boat for medical treatment. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead soon after.

Irwin’s death is believed to be the only fatal catfish attack ever recorded on video. The records of Irwin’s death were soon destroyed at the family’s request. Erwin is survived by a widowed wife and two children, Bindi and Robert.

Soon, the news of the death of a famous animal lover spread throughout the world. In Australia, hundreds of letters of condolence were sent to the family, and flowers were laid at Zoo Australia, a zoo owned by Steve Irwin.

macadamia nut day

Australia is famous for many things, many of which are deadly, but macadamia nuts are a delicious and nutritious exception to the rule. Macadamia Nut Day (#MacadamiaNutDay) was created to draw attention to these delicious nuts and their interesting story.

Macadamia trees are endemic to Australia and are divided into nine species, of which only two produce delicious and edible nuts. These nuts, called “maroochi”, Queensland nuts, “bauple” nuts or “Hawaiian” nuts, are becoming consumed and appreciated all over the world.

These nuts were discovered by Alan Cunningham in 1828, but it wasn’t until 29 years later that they were called macadamia nuts. The nuts collected by Cunningham were simply stored, not checked. A few years later, assistant botanist Walter Hill ate some nuts from a tree recently discovered in the subtropical forests of southeastern Queensland (Australia). It is rumored that nuts are poisonous. However, he did not feel bad after eating the nuts, on the contrary, he found them absolutely delicious. In 1857, Walter Hill’s colleague, Melbourne botanist Ferdinand von Muller, named this type of macadamia tree after his good friend Dr. John Macadam.

Today’s dessert supplement

Also on September 4th, the most greedy among us celebrates the day we can eat two candies (#EatanExtraDessertDay). Life has its ups and downs and can be stressful at times, but sweets are always sweet. And on the 4th of September, we are invited to order a dessert accessory. There will probably be objections about how many calories, too much sugar, etc. But all these objections will be silenced because we have nothing to do, it’s candy supplement day!
