On the weekend of September 10-11, at Calea Victoriei, you can listen to jazz and swing dancing at “Open Streets”

Open Streets runs until October 16 with the following five weekends for pedestrians in Bucharest: September 10-11, September 17-18, October 1-2, October 8-9, and October 15-16, 2022.

Starting in April 2022, “Open Streets – Bucharest, Urban Promenade” offers residents a (re)friendship with the city in which they live through pedestrian weekends in several central districts and sectors. Pedestrianized areas vary from weekend to weekend, and the project aims to allow as many residents of the capital as possible to enjoy temporary islands of relaxation in the city’s busy public spaces. The artistic program is carried out on the pedestrian routes of the event, “Open Streets” with the participation of cultural institutions, artists and independent companies from Bucharest.

The “Open Streets” project is organized by Capital City Hall through the Ministry of Culture, Education and Tourism together with ARCUB – Cultural Center of Bucharest Municipality and PROEDUS – Center for Educational and Sports Projects of Bucharest Municipality.

Pedestrian areas / open streets from 10 to 11 September 2022 between 09:00 and 22:00:

“Open Streets, Bucharest” program at Calea Victoriei | September 10-11

From the weekend premieres of “Open Streets,” swing music fans were invited on Saturday to a pop dance with Jazz Roots Bucharest, one of the winning projects at Open Call to complete the “Open Streets” art program. The vintage and dance atmosphere is brought to life by the classic pieces of the great jazz composers.

Also for the first time in “Open Streets” artist Denis Bolborea supports a musical show with the help of the audience. Titled “Kablat la trecători”, the participatory concert blends real-time sounds produced by the audience through various objects (metal, fruits, vegetables) connected by touch sensors with beatbox rhythms, live repetition, and a cappella. The winning project was decided on Open Call “Open Streets” on two weekends, in the area of Kretzulescu Church.

A week before the Bucharest Jazz Festival #9 kicks off, Bucharest residents enter the jazz atmosphere with good music and discussions about the festival on Europe FM radio that will be broadcast live from “Străzi operite”, on Saturday and Sunday, the pedestrian route in Kalia Victory.

The weekend program is complemented by the much-anticipated Puppet Theater Marathon held every weekend by the Teatrul de Animaie Tăndărică. The participatory installation at Muzica Store collects Bucharest messages and wishes from passers-by, and the Foundation 9 campaign “The suitcase with suitcases no longer has a place in your life. Donate it!” needs to involve city dwellers in a new art installation. ‘Balanced/(unbalanced’) street furniture can be activated by many people at the same time, thus creating contexts of connection and relaxation in the middle of the city. One of the few opportunities to see and learn how icons are made on glass is a Sunday workshop, set up by painter Livio Palack, for which the Ministry of Culture awarded the honorary title “Treasure of the Living Man for Woodwork.” The drawing materials used in the workshop are presented to the participants by the Pictor Shop.

Outside the pedestrian route, the Bucharest School of Art returns to the “Open Streets” program, this time with a children’s-made drawing exhibition, which will open on both weekends, at Casa Eliad on Mircea Vodă Street.
